30年了,"From Mao to Mozart”

Isaac Stern’s Great Leap Forward Reverberates 纽约时报提醒我,自Stern的那次中国行到今天,居然已经30年了。时报有一个观点,因为中国本土的爱乐者还是不够多音乐市场不够发达,所以多有中国音乐家在各大乐团里当乐手的现象。看问题角度很重要,一个现象可以看好也可以看坏,其实都有一定得道理。

那部纪录片我看了好几遍,纪录片里的人物当时和现在最有才气的还是王健。

美国版延安文艺讲话

最近春假,出去放了会儿风,看了点闲书。"Standing Room Only“是一本关于演出市场管理的书。其中"Art for Art's Sake or Art for Social Purpose"是一个十分适合废话的话题。后来发觉,原来在美国也有“延安文艺讲话”精神的体现啊,只不过不是集中体现的。请看来自50年代

"The arts were said to be

(1) important to the image of American society Abroad,

(2) a means of communication and consequently of promoting understanding between this country and others,

(3) an expression of national purpose,

(4) an important influence in the liberal education of the individuals,

(5) an important key to an American's understanding of himself, his times, and his destiny,

(6) a purposeful occupation for youth,

(7) vital to institutions mobilizing the social, moral, and educational resources of American communities,

(8) good for business, especially in the new centers of population,

(9) components for strengthening moral and spiritual bastions in a people whose national security might be threatened.

(10) an influence to offset the materialism of a generally affluent society. "

够全的的了吧,可惜的是书里并没有给出出处,但总结得如此系统,想必也是职能管理部门的手笔。

不仅如此,艺术演出的资助很大部分也来自于赞助捐款,但你看:

"In a recent issue of the newsletter Corporate Philanthropy Report, an unidentified contributions manager is bluntly quoted as saying: 'We no longer 'support' the arts. We use the arts in innovative ways to support the social causes chosen by our company.'"

有一个Fund捐了$45 million的三年计划,然后指示如下:

"To expand their marketing efforts, mount new plays, broaden the ethnic makeup of their management, experiment with color-blind casting, increase community outreach activity and sponsor a variety of other programs designed to integrate the theaters into their communities."

别人的回复是:

"What the foundation fails to 'expand' or 'broaden' or 'sponsor' is an artistic goal."

不光光是政治正确和Affirmative Action, 更广泛地说

"Pieces should never be programmed simply because they are by a woman, a gay, a representative of some ethnic or racial community, or indeed simply because they are new (or simply because they are old)......"

最后的总结陈词却是时间上最早的,托克维尔:

"Democratic nations will habitually prefer the useful to the beautiful, and they will require that the beautiful be useful."

我一直以来就把“延安文艺”,social realism的种种精神列为社会主义制度的副作用产物。或者说一个社会制度要求艺术的功能化,人的物化与同化是悲哀的,要付出代价的。难道“免煮柿油”也不能幸免?那这就不是某个社会制度的问题喽?我错怪了?

Dudamel这个名字在音乐圈子里已经红了两三年了吧。年纪比我小,一两年前听过他指挥Chicago Symphony Orchestra,觉得又是一个新锐而已,那个时侯还是Barenboim做主Chicago,Barenboim很喜欢提携新锐的。锐气很足,很兴奋,速度也比别人赶一点点,都是意料以内的事情。也知道Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra是他手下的亲兵。这个录像是上个月他带更年轻的一个团,前者的预备团,都是中学生,因为最近看了另一个不错的TedTalk,于是我就听了一下。

Shostakovich头几分钟,觉得Dudamel当然是一个很好的trainer(不但自己要懂音乐,还要有本事经由面前的年轻人把音乐做出来)有点冲,主要是不免让人有点机械感。想想也是,那么多的人还都是中学生,你还不得手把手都教给别人听啊。我的耳朵算是给Chicago啊Bavarian等一流团养刁了,在他们身上要求自主的音乐感的流露,还是很复杂中年以后人对社会的情绪,不是苛求是什么?很不错啦,the Julliard Orchestra也不过音色比他们更细腻一点而已。当我放下音乐评论的口味,我变得越来越开心,尤其是第二个Márquez的舞曲,当然,那是他们自己的东西,一直都在自己心里的最享受的那种情绪。这种开心是我久违的,而熟悉的。以前在学校里一群人一起搞音乐的时候,不管是合唱团还是合奏,不管出品的音乐其实多不入流,但是会让人发自内心的开心。我很想念那种愉悦的状态,久违了。

我觉得音乐当然可以扮演很多角色,从室内乐厅里的soul searching, 到几百个人一起的感情宣泄,或者百货店/grocery/饭馆里让人放轻松,音乐其实不应有高尚和低档的分别,一个标准,开心就好。这群中学生很值得羡慕的,我希望有更多的人有机会像他们那样,享受音乐到让人羡慕。

对于业余的来讲,音乐教育不仅仅是为了提高修养或者所谓的层次;对于专业的来说,音乐训练不是像体操一样做别人做不到的技术动作。音乐能教的是一种能力,一种能被音乐打动的感受力。其实没有所谓音乐细胞多少之分。是,同一支曲子有人哭得稀里哗啦有人无动于衷,但是就像有的作品我初听时也是无动于衷,时隔多年在听就会感动得四肢发软一样:这不是人和人的差别,而是那时的你能不能被打动的关系。和生活经历有关,和聆听的场合\次数有关,和与谁一起听的有关,也和一个好的音乐导师(他可以是你自己)有关。

开幕式

写下来,不然就记不得写了。

一个这么长的开幕式,我开始之前就对自己说,根据自己对当下中国其他艺术活动中的“创意”,肯定有很多乱糟糟大艳大俗的东西,不过,只要最好的那部分留下深刻的印象,这个晚上就成了。若干年以后回放,只会调最闪光的那几分钟,由此越发铭刻在后人印象里。在我对历届的印象里,雅典留下的灵光的点最多:小纸船的梦,蓝色大海边嬉戏的一男一女,白色的雕塑。悉尼,记得那座被焰火点燃的大桥。亚特兰大,要不是电视上老是回放拳王阿里的颤动手,就记得主题曲是很美国的管乐旋律,大喇叭。再往前就不记得了,太小了。

到了08080808。这么说吧,删掉京剧小人唐装美人,把千人的孔子团练变成一两个人作主角,可以给7-80分;换一个人代替张艺谋负责色彩和美术指导,85分;只留下前十五分钟后十五分钟,可打90分。张艺谋在访谈里说他“不想把人当作工具”,可以他还是经常把2008个人当作“用具”,还是离不开集体操这个最不给个人创造力的形式。如果要重复一千遍才能给人以印象,那就算了吧,失败了。这个“搞装修”的虽然是摄影出身,但他的色彩品味也太xx了。尤其是从画里走出来的那一排排唐装美女,红是最土的红,绿是最俗的绿,不要告诉我光打上去会好看,就是难看就是土,放在一起尤其难看。那时我对自己说,我们的电影我们的现代绘画就这点品位,不指望什么了,不奇怪。

单看点火,我给95分,因为我期待的灵光一现在那时亮了,而且相信将来我会一直记得。什么感觉?自由的感觉:自由的奔跑,毫无约束飘逸的奔跑,梦一般的奔跑。竞技体育的最高境界之一就是不受生理和技术的约束自由的发挥人的身体的极致,从这一点看,体育和艺术是相通的。一个是body,一个是mind。
